The UK will provide $2 billion to the Green Climate Fund which is the largest single funding commitment made by the UK to help the world tackle climate change. The UK will contribute £1.62 billion ($2 billion) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF),It was established by 194 countries following the Copenhagen Accord at COP15. This information has been shared by the British High Commission in India.

At the G20 summit, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called on leaders to work together ahead of the COP28 summit this December to reduce their countries’ carbon emissions and support vulnerable economies to deal with the consequences of climate change.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the need for a better, larger and more effective Multilateral Development Bank (MDB) was agreed upon. Having better larger and more effective MDBs is extremely important as developmental demands from around the world are increasing, Therefore, these institutions have to be made better and bigger. He said the G20 roadmap for implementation of the recommendations of an independent panel on capital adequacy framework of the Multilateral Development Bank was endorsed. Sitharaman said the roadmap estimates that the implementation of CAF and its measures will potentially create scope for additional lending of about USD 200 billion over the next decade.
